At 8.30am on the 24th May we had to make the desiscion no pet owner ever wants to make.... The previons afternoon (23rd) Archie apeared a little unwell, just not himself....He seemed to go downhill quite quickly and by tea time (just 3 hours later) he was obviously in a lot of pain and discomfort, so we raced him up to vet... her diagnosis was not good... It would seem his kidneys had stopped working altogether... She gave him some painkillers and a some other meds to try and kick start his kidneys and found him a comfortable bed in the surgery, and would assess his condition in the morning...
This was the last time i saw him....
Unfortunately i had to go to work in the morning and was unable to leave... today of all days...! I can usually slip out for an hour if i need to but not today! So i had to leave Deb to take the call :o( The vet called Deb in the morning to say Archie had actuall gotten worse overnight, and at best he only had a couple days left.. Deb had to go see him on her own and instruct the vet to put Archie to sleep...
I wished i could'a gone too but ce' la vie' these things happen sometimes...
The house seems very quiet now without him and no-body knows quite what to say to eachother.
Macy our little Lhasa Apso is so sad... she doesn't know whats happened to her best friend...He's just disappered.. She has taken to sleeping outside on the bottom step up to the house... We can all see she's waithing for Archie.... Every day (when dry) Arch would have a couple hours sleep on the back patio, Macy would come along and wake him by very carefully washing his entire face, and if he wasn't to grouchy at that, his ears and maybe his feet as well.......
We all miss him so much already...

Good night Archie.....Just remember, all paths lead to the stars dear friend.x x

All it takes is one exciting event, and in seconds, he is hunched over like a muscley gargoyle, running thundering laps around our couch & coffee table, grunting & snorting like pig! He is fast, and you are smart to just get out of his way until he is finished! (They're not too skilled in maneuvering around you!)

My Maggie has an extreamly prickly coat. When my husband hugs her he gets a rash for a little while. In training class last night we were doing the relax thing where I sit in the floor and lay Maggie on her back between my knees and tell her to relax. I feel her legs and feet and look in her ears and at her teeth; I rub her belly and head and tell her to relax. This is so she know this as the relax position and if I need to use it at a vets office I can or anytime she is upset. When I had her in this position the trainer came and looked in her ears and felt her legs and petted her, etc... I few minutes later she looked at her arm and said "I'm getting bit by something. Is anyone else getting bit". I laughed and said "No Lisa, you just petted Maggie. She has the Shar Pei fur that gives some people a rash". I found it very humerous. Just thought I would share :-)
Oh you can see pictures of Maggie Mae (Pie Head) in my profile. I just am in love with her.

My boy-friend and I had to put his shar-pei to sleep about 3 weeks ago and were looking into getting a mini or toy shar-pei. Does anyone know a breeder around PA, NJ, DE, MD, VA and at the farthest ohio. We would like to see and pick our own out since we want to know how it is going to interact with us and don't trust buying online. Thanks

Don't know if you have issues with either, but a few people in Operation Scarlet have begun to give their Pei the supplement MSM--and have seen the episodes decrease to nearly disappear. There's a dog at the rescue that lives there--Lacey--and she used to spike a fever almost every week. Now, on the MSM, she's practically cured.

Being in the drug area, I should know more about what MSM does, but I don't. i gotta do me some research.
